Our Story

For years, Monella was just a dream.

​

It started as countless conversations around the kitchen table, wondering if it was possible to share the flavors we loved most with the city we call home. We always came back to the same question: Why not?

​

Jasmine grew up surrounded by the traditions of the Italian kitchen. Her father, Giuseppe, who is from Sicily, taught her from a young age that cooking is an art one built on patience, family, and recipes passed down through generations. Some of her favorite memories were made over homemade tiramisù, fresh espresso, and gathering around the table with the people she loved. As she got older, she realized something was missing. No matter where she went, she could never quite find the taste of home.

When Rahjim met Jasmine, he quickly fell in love with those same traditions. Family dinners became something to look forward to, homemade tiramisù became a staple at every gathering, and sharing a few cups of espresso each day became part of everyday life. Before long, the recipes, rituals, and flavors that Jasmine had grown up with had become just as much a part of Rahjim's life.

Together, they dreamed of creating something that honored those traditions while introducing them to others. Monella is the result of that dream, a passion project inspired by family, heritage, and the belief that great food has a way of bringing people together.

Louisville is a city built by people and cultures from all over the world. Its diversity is one of the things we love most about our community, and we believe there is always room for a little more flavor.

 

Through Monella, our hope is to share a small piece of Italy with Louisville through handcrafted tiramisù, specialty coffee, and elevated experiences inspired by generations of Sicilian tradition. Every dessert we make is a celebration of where we come from, the family who inspired us, and the dream that finally became reality.
